WHAT KIND OF CHURCH?

A church is not a building with a steeple or a spire. A church is a company of people who come together to follow Christ Jesus and to worship him. The Bible gives us images and metaphors in order to understand what the church is meant to be like and how it is to function. Let's take a look.

A BODY

"Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it."

1 Corinthians 12:27

The church is made up of people who together form a body.

Everyone is different, Everyone has a role

Everyone matters.

A FLOCK

"I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me."

The church is a people who are led, fed and cared for by the great Shepherd - Christ, and by godly leaders who also shepherd the flock. (Acts 20:28)

A FAMILY

"You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family."

Ephesians 2:19 NLT

When we become a part of the church we become part of God's family, with new brothers and sisters. We are committed to one another in love.

A HOUSE

"You also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house"

1 Peter 2:5

The church is not a physical building, but is in fact a spiritual building made of people, where God lives and reigns by His spirit.
